Vinalhaven's Favorite Pass Time... The Ravens do it again!

On Wednesday, June 17th, the Vinalhaven Ravens, whose record is no 56-0, won their 4th consecutive Oceanside Little League Championship! This is the Vinalhaven Ravens' longest winning streak in the history of the team, started by Coach Steve "Nipper" Ames 20+ years ago. The 2026 island team is coached by Head Coach Nipper Ames and Assistants Brian Osgood, Jacob Stanley, and Joshua Miller. Team members include: Logan Miller, Henry Miller, Avery Martin, Jonah Stanley, Davidson Young, Thaniel Poole, Lucas Pratt, Joshua Small, Jacoby Hutchinson, Noah Hufsey, Jayce Boogard, and Ryan Davis. Here are photos of Coach Nip and the team with their championship trophy!

One of the unique aspects of our island lifestyle involves the logistics of getting to and from games. Island teams and their coaches travel to the mainland, sometimes leaving the island on a morning ferry and returning in the afternoon. Championship games, however, occur in the late afternoon/early evening after the last ferry departs,  which means the team and their fans have to spend the night on the mainland or find another way home.  Luckily for our sports teams, some parents are lobstermen who are always willing to take them over in their boats to the playoff games.  This year's team was taxied across by Harold Poole, captain of the F/V Isla Faith. Other fans crossed the bay in Hank Davidson's boat, the Megameliza, and Javin Poole's boat the No Days Off.

After the victory in Rockland, the team and their coaches traveled across the bay to Vinalhaven under a calm starry night. As they entered Carver's Harbor they were greeted by 4 of the Vinalhaven Fire Department fire trucks, as well as many of the community members for a Championship Parade. This is a very special tradition for our island kids and one of the many things that make our island community so special. Our fire department shows up strong whenever any of our sports teams advance in the playoffs, or win a championship. A big shout out to them for always being so supportive.
