Before summer pace begins, I had time to enjoy some of the very things I often tell my clients make Maine island living so special.
A leisurely walk around Lane's Island this weekend brought all the reminders of the season arriving quietly--rocky beaches, sweeping ocean views, winding vistas, and the fleeting colors and smells of spring.

Antique apple trees were in blossom, hidden narcissus tucked along the edges, and the grass impossibly green after the long winter months.

Saturday, I went to Rockland to watch the Little League team play a double-header. It was cold and windy, made warmer by time spent visiting with my cousin and uncle between innings and bundled up spectators. Grandson Davidson caught for his cousin and fastest pitcher in the league, Logan Miller. Our island Ravens are now 52-0!

Sunday dessert came from rhubarb picked on my property--perhaps planted generations ago by my great-grandmother. Instead of traditional strawberries, I added blueberries and created "BlueBarb" in honor of my wonderful mom, Barb Davidson. She was an entrepreneur, granddaughter of Swedish immigrants, and all around outstanding island leader and community member.
Here's a photo of my BlueBarb dessert before adding a yummy topping of butter, oatmeal and brown sugar. Served warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. Delicious!

These are the moments that define island life for me: simple traditions, family roots, and the beauty of slowing down long enough to notice it all.
