Kris is highly regarded in her field and known in both island communities as a leader and someone who cares deeply about community, the arts, preserving nature, and living by the Golden Rule. She is a classically trained pianist and was the music teacher on Vinalhaven and North Haven for almost 20 years.  She has served on numerous island boards including but not limited to Fox Islands Concerts, Partners in Island Education, The Vinalhaven Land Trust, Vinalhaven's Historic Downstreet, Lifeflight Foundation, Hurricane Island Science and Leadership Board, and the Star of Hope Foundation.  She has three adult children and five grandchildren, all of whom live on Vinalhaven.

Kris has the following to share about island living...

Maine islands have a way of touching us deeply. The connection cannot always be verbalized, but it undoubtedly exists. As a Vinalhaven native and seventh-generation islander, this is true for me.

Island living is one of the great graces in my life. Its isolation teaches me the importance of relationships, its sunsets of the profoundness in a moment, its changing tides and seasonal nature about the necessity of balance within our lives, and its granite as a reminder of the resiliency and strength we all have within . Artist and fellow-islander Eric Hopkins says, I'm "of the island, but really a global girl." He has it right. Island living has taught me about the importance of connection and also gives me a sense of place—within myself, fifteen miles out to sea, and within the expansiveness of the world. 

Islands are as individual as we are, and preserving this uniqueness is a commitment of mine. With conscious, well-planned development, I believe the integrity of places we cherish can continue to thrive.
